Getting back into pixel art

Pixel art has been part of my creative journey, mainly because of my exposure to video games and online communities. It makes use of limited color palettes and canvas resolutions as much as possible. Whether it be a tiny icon on a personal website or a huge collection of video game graphics, this art style always fascinates me.

Back when I was active on Tumblr, I tried to make a blog for my pixel art creations.1 I remembered sharing a rather wide pixel room with simple shading, and I kept it as my only creation there. Unfortunately, I deleted my art blog (which is probably unarchived at this point) because I quickly lost interest in managing that space.

Despite that, I still enjoy looking at this specific art style around the Internet world. It does not matter if I scroll across my social media feeds or browse various personal websites. At least, I can get inspired with other artists' pixel creations. I can even get a few premade templates from them, if they have any in their collections.

Speaking of templates, I grabbed a base for the tiny bear pixel from Sylvia and customized it based on this blog's theme. I also did similarly with the Made by a Girl mini-clique, where I replaced the default girl with my own virtual avatar. Both of my custom pixels were made via Photopea.

Now that I have my own personal realmlet, I do not feel pressured to experiment with other human-oriented art styles like this one. I can finally fill my online toybox with various kinds of goodies around the Internet world. Heck, I might make more different types of pixels (such as dress-up dolls and web graphics) in the future.

  1. That blog had a name that was suggested by someone in Gaia Online (an online community that is known for its small, anime-style avatars). I forgot what it was, though. I might search for it whenever I feel like archiving my stuff from that realm.
